Charlie Coyle scored the winner in the fourth round of a shootout as the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the host Seattle Kraken 2-1 on Tuesday.
Adam Fantilli scored in regulation and goaltender Jet Greaves made 22 saves as the Blue Jackets salvaged the finale of a five-game trip (1-3-1).
Ryan Winterton scored for Seattle and goalie Matt Murray stopped 33 of 34 shots.
Both teams scored once through the first three attempts in the shootout. In round 4, Greaves made a save as Kaapo Kakko tried to beat him between the pads, and then Coyle put a shot off the crossbar and into the net for the winner.
The Kraken opened the scoring at 16:43 of the first period thanks to their fourth line. Ben Meyers split two defenders on his way to the net then sent a backhanded pass back to Winterton in the high slot for a wrist shot that snuck inside the left post.
It was Winterton’s second career goal — and his second in as many home games. Jamie Oleksiak got a secondary assist.
The score remained 1-0 until late in the second period when the Blue Jackets got a 5-on-3 advantage with Seattle’s Eeli Tolvanen (tripping) and Ryan Lindgren (cross-checking) in the penalty box.
Murray lost his stick in a scramble near the left post, and Columbus quickly worked the puck around to Fantilli for a snap shot from the top of the opposite faceoff circle. Murray rolled over while on his back and got his glove on the puck but was unable to keep it out of the net at 18:22.
Kirill Marchenko extended his point streak to nine games with an assist, and Sean Monahan also was credited with a helper.
Murray was making his second consecutive start, and his first at home as a member of the Kraken, with Joey Daccord (upper body) on the injured list.
Columbus forward Boone Jenner sustained an upper-body injury in the second period and didn’t return.
