The Boston Bruins aim to extend their winning streak to three games when they visit the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.
This is the first of two meetings between the interconference foes. San Jose has won each of the last three meetings after Boston had pulled out 14 straight wins in the series.
Boston kicks off a four-game road trip with confidence after outscoring its previous two opponents 11-2. The Bruins chased goalie Utah goalie Sebastian Cossa in a 6-1 victory against the Mammoth, with their own netminder Jeremy Swayman making 36 saves. Boston then surged late for a 5-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers last Saturday.
“That’s the beauty of hockey,” David Pastrnak said after the win against Utah, when he contributed two power-play goals. “One night it doesn’t go your way, and the next night you’re nearly perfect. That’s the important thing to remember, what we’ve done right. We know we’re all good players and we proved it last year.”
In the latter game against Philadelphia, the Bruins took a 2-0 lead into the third frame before exploding for three goals. Fraser Minten had a goal and two assists, while Pavel Zacha, Mason Lohrei, Marat Khusnutdinov and Casey Mittelstadt also found the back of the net.
“Every player wants to be a difference-maker every shift, so it felt good, going over the boards and knowing that we were going to create something every shift,” Zacha said. “We have to keep doing that because it’s fun playing this way.”
Meanwhile, the Sharks are still searching for their first regulation win of the season after kicking off their 2026-27 campaign with three overtime victories in their first four games. They’ll also look to get back in the win column in general after falling 3-1 to the visiting Edmonton Oilers last Saturday.
Darnell Nurse had a team-leading five shots on goal against Edmonton, facing the Oilers for the first time since being traded to San Jose on July 1. Yaroslav Askarov made 17 saves in the tight-checking game.
“I didn’t have any major issues with our start,” Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky said. “I thought maybe (we) could have created a little bit more, but I didn’t mind our start. We made one mistake, and it was in the back of our net.”
Macklin Celebrini scored the Sharks’ lone goal in the third period after ringing a shot off the post in the previous frame. The 20-year-old captain missed the previous two games with a lower-body injury.
“It’s a tough group to contain with the players they (the Oilers) have,” Celebrini said after the loss. “But that shouldn’t take away from our mentality to get on them and create more offense.”
Celebrini has one goal and four assists in four career games against the Bruins.
Askarov has started four of the Sharks’ first five games and has gone 2-2-0 with a 3.71 goals-against average and an .860 save percentage. For the Bruins, Swayman has compiled a 4-1-0 record, a 1.79 GAA and a .932 save percentage.
