The Cincinnati Reds parted ways with longtime pitching coach Derek Johnson on Thursday.
Johnson, 55, took a personal leave of absence in June and did not return to the team.
“We wish Derek and his family the best. A search for a new pitching coach will begin immediately,” Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall said in a statement.
Johnson spent three seasons as the pitching coach of the Milwaukee Brewers before being hired to the same position with the Reds ahead of the 2019 campaign. He was promoted to director of pitching prior to the 2022 season and continued as pitching coach.
