Teuvo Teravainen scored twice, including the game-winner with 4:18 left, and Roman Kantserov also had two goals to help the host Chicago Blackhawks defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-3 on Tuesday.
Captain Connor Bedard had an assist in his season debut to help Chicago win the opener of Pittsburgh’s four-game road trip.
Sidney Crosby had two goals, Nick Robertson also scored and Erik Karlsson collected two assists for the Penguins. Crosby tied the game at 9:17 of the third period, gathering a rebound in front of the net and maneuvering around Blackhawks goaltender Spencer Knight (24 saves).
Teravainen put Chicago ahead for good at 15:42 when his long wrist shot from the left circle just in front of the goal line got past Pittsburgh goalie Sergei Murashov (15 saves). Teravainen assisted on Tyler Bertuzzi’s empty-netter with 10 seconds left for a three-point night.
Kantserov, a rookie winger, enjoyed the first multi-goal game of his career while scoring for the third time in the past two games.
Teravainen opened the scoring for the Blackhawks just 28 seconds into the game. Anton Frondell’s forecheck forced a turnover behind the Pittsburgh net, and Frondell passed the puck to a charging Teravainen in the slot.
Pittsburgh has yielded a goal less than 30 seconds into the game twice in its past four contests.
Crosby tied the game at 6:57 of the first period, netting his first goal of the season on a wrist shot from the right circle off a 2-on-1 with Karlsson.
Chicago regained the lead on the power play at 17:50. Bedard collected a Bowen Byram pass and one-timed the puck to Kantserov, who sent a snapshot from the slot past Murashov.
Kantserov extended the advantage to 3-1 at 10:32 of the second. Artyom Levshunov weaved down the right side and into the circle and found Kantserov for a tap-in in front of the net.
Pittsburgh narrowed the deficit to one goal at 17:51 as Robertson scored on a rebound off a rush. He gathered a loose puck in front of the net and wristed a shot past Knight. The puck slid under the back of the net and out but the goal counted.
Bertuzzi had a goal and assist and Frondell added two assists.
Bedard missed training camp and Chicago’s first six games while recovering from surgery on his left shoulder in July.
